Tokusatsu Review: Uchu Sentai Kyuuranger vs Space Squad Part 1: Excelsior!

In memory of Stanley Martin Leiber Aka Stan "The Man" Lee
 December 28th 1922-November 12th 2018
Now before I talk about this movie there’s a recent event that needs to be addressed. Mr Stan Lee was an icon, whether through direct creation or with assistance from his various collaborators such as Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko he helped create some of the most iconic and long lasting characters in comics. From Spider-Man to Dr strange to the X-men and the Fantastic Four Stan’s influence can be seen not just in Marvel but all modern comics. For today’s purposes he was the man responsible for Super Sentai as it is today. After Marvel collaborated with Toei to produce the Spider-man Tokusatsu series Toei drew inspiration from that show, namely Spider-man’s giant robot the Marveler and borrowed the concept to revive the Sentai series after JAKQ Dengektai was cut short due to executive meddling due to Parent Watch groups complaining about the show’s more “graphic” nature.

Originally Toei was going to adapt Captain America but that project was recycled for the Sentai project now rebranded as Super Sentai to differentiate it from Himitsu Sentai Goranger and JAKQ since they were created by Shotaro Ishinomori and thus under his name. But Stan’s influence on Sentai doesn’t end there, we could have gotten Sentai adaptations here in the states before Saban got lucky with Power Rangers. Originally Stan was trying to get either a dub or adaptation of Sun Vulcan but was rejected. So yes, without Stan Lee we wouldn’t have Super Sentai or even Tokusatsu as we know it today for good and for ill, and if people had listened to him we could have had much more Sentai content to inspire and entertain then we do today. So Stan, no matter what anyone says, you were the true believer and made true believers of us all, in that anyone can be a hero, all of humanity is equal and that righteousness and justice will always triumph over those whose hearts are only filled with evil, hatred and bigotry, to you we say, excelsior!

Well enough of the good stuff time to talk about a rookie legacy hero dealing with a group of 11 morons being dragged down by an even bigger moron who would most likely be the exact opposite of Stan’s super hero ideology. Though not right away as we open on another of the 12 Apostles of Genmaku finalizing his plan to the big boss, Fumein.

Who honestly looks like a more mobile and combat focused Alpha 5.
However his plans are intercepted by Ninja Jiraiya (last seen looking like a dumbass with the Ninningers) and Space Sheriff Shaider. Before the two can put the Space Shinobi down he jumps through a dimensional hole and begins his plans to conquer an alternate universe. (Even though the movie keeps saying Galaxy it's really an alternate universe, that's the level of dumb we're dealing with here people, they can't tell the difference between a Galaxy and a universe.) Specifically the universe of the Kyuuranger, since it's been established that Kyuuranger takes place in an alternate universe keeping the main universe safe from Dumbluck's stupidity.

Speaking of said universe the story picks up 4 years after the defeat of their big bad Don Armage. Everyone seems to have moved on with their lives and are enjoying the piece. Including the former Houoh Soldier Tsurugi Ohtori who's now the president of the new Galactic Federation and introduces new devices called NeoKyuutamas to a press conference which is basically a limitless Deus Ex Machina device. Which means it's perfect for an evil faction to steal the four prototypes for their malicious purposes, oh look, someone working for an evil organization stealing them for malicious purposes. But the thief is confronted by Spyro the Dumbass Dragon who reveals herself to be Yera Allon who only gets away because Spyro threw out his back after tripping on the unconscious guards, our mentor ladies and gentlemen!

We then cut to Dumbluck meeting back up with Robo Bison before his 999th total defense match where the two catch up on how everyone's doing. While Dumbluck has been ignoring his duties as a king and has spent the last four years traveling (like the irresponsible moron that he is!) Leman Russ has a wife and kid meaning that his species won't go extinct so great for him, Sasuke Clone #3472 and some of the others are working with Spiro's organization Rebellion keeping the good fight going while Luigi Mario's restaurant chain is taking off like a rocket.  But while they start talking about Yera the news comes on about how she stole the Neo Kyuutama, so yeah awkward. But not as awkward as Tsurugi giving Sasuke Clone, Kurumi and Pine Tree (Koguma Skyblue) orders to bring her in so he can her her side of the story.

But unless that story starts off with "this evil Space Ninja forced me to help him" I doubt you've got that much a defense case since we then see Yera giving Demost the NeoKyuutamas. So what does he do now that he has these incredibly powerful devices? He uses them like the Deus Ex Machina orbs that they are and resurrect four powerful General grade villains (at least two of which should be impossible). He brings back Mele from Gekiranger, Basco from Gokaiger, Escape from Go-busters and Juzo from Shinkenger.

Ok, starting from the top, one they're in an alternate universe where these guys never existed so how the hell was Demost able to resurrect them? Two, Mele and Rio were heavily implied to have reincarnated after they were killed by Long at the end of Gekiranger so how the hell did she come back? I mean yeah she showed up for the Legendary War at the opening of Gokaiger but so did every other dead ranger so I guess God gave them a one time revival to take part in that war or something, best explanation I could come up with. Third, Escape has no soul to revive, she's an AI created by Messiah, and Messiah and the Vaglas aren't like the Geth from Mass Effect or Reploids from Mega Man X where their AI has progressed to the point of actually being mistaken for human, in other words these units do not have a Soul. Basco and Juzo I don't have an issue with though mostly because I never saw Shinkenger and thus don't know how things went with Juzo but I am not substituting what happened with Decker in Power Rangers Samurai for obvious reasons. But in short, less than 8 minutes in you've shat the bed movie.

Also theses choices of revived bad guys make very little sense as apparently the spell only works on souls who have some form of lingering regret like the Revival Jutsu from Naruto but again these four make no sense. Maybe Basco and Juzo since Basco's a fun loving anarchist and Juzo is a bloodthirsty maniac respectively so maybe they just want more fun and carnage. But again Escape is an AI with no actual humanity. Hell even Mele points out that her resurrection makes no sense since she only cares for earning the love of her master Rio, but Demost fixes that with a good old fashioned brainwashing spell and sends the five on their way to attack the Kyuurangers.

Basco starts off by attacking Sasuke Clone, Kurumi and Pine Tree claiming that he's working under Yera's orders, and they believe him like the morons that they are. Because this obviously untrustworthy Jack Sparrow knock-off looks like he would definitely be telling the truth about something like this, even though they fought beside each other and have known each other for at least 5 years and thus should know better, everyone in this movie is an idiot I thought you should know. While Escape launches a similar attack at Luigi Mario's restaurant Dumbluck and Robo Bison make tracks back to Earth to check in with Tsurugi and learn more. Along the way they run into a certain pervert in navy blue as well as Mele. As for Bootleg Spock and Josuk3PO they actually run into Yera but before they can talk Juzo covers her escape and duke it out with the two.

The villains and Yera retreat but not before the perv, though the power of sexual assault and being a major grade A creep manages break though Mele's brainwashing just a bit before she withdraws as well. The perv introduces himself to Dumbluck and Robo Bison as Karasuma Shuu aka Space Sheriff Shaider which Dumbluck recognized after remembering his encounter with Geki. Proving that the two are friends Dumbluck takes Shuu with him to see Tsurugi. The group finally meet up and compare notes, though to make things complicated Bootleg and Josuk3PO arrive with a recording of their fight with Yera, Demost and Juzo; Shuu recognizing the Space Ninja from before. Knowing that Yera appears to be collaborating with a notorious criminal Tsurugi does the regrettable yet correct thing of putting an APB for her arrest.

But of course since we can't have logic be a thing Dumbluck objects. Now normally he'd be right but the evidence is clear cut, now while they don't know the context behind this situation the facts are that she's infiltrated a government research center, stole four prototype power sources, has been seen collaborating with a notorious criminal and attacked her former comrades without any explanation. As for the defense all Dumbluck has is "don't you trust her you traitor?!" Not exactly an ironclad defense. Besides as Tsurugi points out a former hero turned criminal and the newly elected president who was her comrade not trying to stop her would undermine the new government that the people have placed their futures in after living under the tyranny of Jark Matter.

Now anyone who's seen Gurren Lagann would point out that this sounds similar to the second half of the show where the Anti-Spiral attacked and Nina awoke as their harbinger. In that show, Simon later was arrested by Rossiu to quell the population after the initial Anti-Spiral attack to prepare the Ark Gurren for an emergency evacuation of the planet. The difference between then and now is that Simon went along with it; even agreeing to fight the Anti-Spiral with bombs installed into Gurren Lagann because he had to make sure that Rossiu's plan worked since he knew what was at stake and could see the bigger picture. Dumbluck by contrast can't see farther than his nose because he's a self-righteous moron who doesn't know the first thing about responsibility. Remember that he's apparently a King, yet he spent the last four years after Jark Matter's defeat wandering around space like he did when the show started, so in summation Dumbluck, you're a fucking moron!

But because stupidity is contagious Robo Bison and Pine Tree go with him. So the muscle bound moron robot who exercises (even though he's a robot just like in Headmasters) and the pre-teen kid are the only ones on Dumbluck's side. If that doesn't tell you how wrong this putz is I have no idea. So after all of this idiocy I need a break. Come back next week as we skip past the fight scenes and learn why Yera is even working with Marvin the Ninja in the first place, spoilers it's really stupid.

Personal Post: My media recap of 2016.

Please be sure to read, comment, spread the links, re-tweet and follow me on Twitter @OnDavidsBrain! and support me on Patreon.

My Christmas haul for this year. Some of which will be for your benefit in the up coming year.
What else can I say about 2016? It's been a big year, several anniversaries for various franchises, I finally moved on to Lets Plays, reviewed the Sentai series that premiered on the same day I was born which was Jetman and I'll just leave it at that. Oh and I also managed to get Madoka Magica Beginnings and Eternal on DVD for a somewhat reasonable price, thank you holiday sales. So for this list I'll just be going through the pieces of media that were released in North America in 2016 that I've played/watched in no particular order.

This isn't a best of worst of list I'm just going through new movies, video games, anime what have you that I've seen which premiered in 2016. Though I'll only count remasters or HD remakes if they've made a significant change compared to the previous version of this product. But I won't include Demos that I've played since by definition I haven't played the full game and thus feel uncomfortable giving my thoughts on a full game based on the first hour or so.

My Favorite movie of 2016, good continuation of the MCU story, brilliant adaptation of the Civil War comic and just the perfect thing for people to cleanse their palates after ingesting the garbage fire that was Batman Vs Superman. But if you want a more detailed account of my experience with this movie, here you go.
I've finally finished this game and surprise, surprise it's really good. Now I still don't want to give too much away but we do see some good character development, the bosses can kick your teeth in if you have no idea what you're doing and Dagda is one of the grand poobahs of dickery. Read my review of my first impressions, get both SMT 4 games and have some fun.
Essentially Iron Man with magic instead of technology but by the Emperor are the special effects impressive. Also it reveals one of the Infinity Stones so if you're a hardcore MCU fan this is required viewing. Especially for the upcoming Thor Ragnarök. Review post, like share subscribe moving right along.
It's Pokémon's 20th anniversary game, of course it's really good. The Kahunas are an interesting reinvention of the Gym Leader concept, Team Skull is my second favorite villain group behind Team Plasma, and I love the concept of regional variant Pokémon. My personal favorite is Aloan Marowak. Though I wish these games could provide a decent challenge like Hard mode in Pokemon White 2 and Black 2, please Nintendo, bring back Hard mode for the next games, pretty please? Here's my thoughts on Sun, me and my Fire Kitty are almost to the end.
I've played this since Day 1 so take my advice. Don't ever go for Free to Play, unless you have great patience and self control with your money. I do I only limit myself to deals or exclusive events but for the rest, you may want to just watch a  Lets Play. Or since Kingdom Hearts 2.8 has HD cutscenes of all the important events of this game, just wait for that. You can get by without purchasing new Medals, but only for so long. Sure there are Events that give you great medals but unless you know what you're doing and log on at least once a day to contribute to your party for events you'll be out of luck. But hey it's better then Final Fantasy All the Bravest.
A great remake of a Point and Click Classic. I've never played the original game back in the day I was more of a Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam kind of guy. I was a little kid can you blame me? Back on point this was a real brain scratcher and while I have a Lets Play of this game I may want to avoid making another one in the future since they take time, I want to beat them without walkthroughs and I doubt all you members of the PC Master Race want to see this filthy console peasant miss what was OH SO OBVIOUS on my walkthroughs. But all in all a good game, an interesting experience and you should definitely check it out for yourselves. Also it has the original Maniac Mansion in the game so 2 games for the price of 1, can't beat that.
GET THIS COLLECTION RIGHT NOW!!!
Seriously this is a compilation of three of my favorite games of all time, in HD, with all their single Player DLC and minus Bioshock 2's pointless and irrelevant multiplayer. You will not regret this. But even if you don't since next year is the 10th Anniversary of the franchise guess who has two thumbs and is going to do Lets Plays of these games and their DLC because he is a humongous fan? d o_o b This guy!
My favorite game of 2016. Though I couldn't show it the way I intended. See I originally wanted to do a lets play of this game but for some reason I couldn't upload any clips from my PS4 to Youtube. Though the few I could were flagged down by copyright because they had clips from the failed movie. But I do want to show my love for this game somehow so why not here? I personally view this as non-cannon to the main series due to Quark telling this story to a fellow inmate and; let's face it the guy is about as unreliable a narrator as you can get aside from the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future so you have to take this story with a major grain of salt. Besides we still have the original games, they're not going anywhere and I do still have a lets play of the original game so I can at least show how far we've come.
Now for your viewing pleasure my first impressions of the game as well as a small sample of my constant failures at the Hoverboard track before Patch 1.03 that actually made the minigame winnable. The others you can see on Youtube.

I'm betting that you all forgot this came out this year and quite frankly I don't blame you. This is almost a textbook example of what NOT to do in a sequel, reuse gags without the proper context of the original, pointlessly reset character progression, jumps the shark even more then the first you name it it's here. The only time laughed watching this flick was whenever Will Ferrell was on screen. Just give this flick a you-googly and move on.
Technically the worst movie I've seen this year, but that's only because I haven't seen that many movies and the few I have seen were really good. So all I have to say about this movie is that it was just kind of "meh". Though I will agree that Jerod Leto had no business being the Joker. I get what they were trying to go for with him but every-time I saw him I wasn't seeing the Joker I was seeing a pusher for Dr Rockso. Besides at least this wasn't Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Cheap Cash-ins. Also I really liked the part in the final fight where Diablo turned into an Aztec Fire monster to duke it out with Incubus. But aside from that, just meh.
I honestly wanted to review this movie in my usual style but well life happened and I wanted to talk about other stuff. However I do think this movie is decent. Not great but decent mostly coming off as Toei trying to make an apology (somewhat insincere but an apology nonetheless) to fans of the Showa Era with Hiroshi Fujioka's name slapped onto the writing credits. But considering how he hated Takashi Hongo's depiction in Kamen Rider Taisen and the retcons included in the Kamen Rider Yongo netmovies that remove that and Grand Prix from cannon I can see why he'd want the chance to set Takshi Hongo back on the right path. It's certainly better then the last Taisen films as at least this does seem like we're watching Takashi Hongo fighting Shocker to save Tachibana's granddaughter who is essentially his Goddaughter.

A man on his last legs desperately fighting to save the family of the man who helped shape him into what he is today, and like most Inoue scripts while the execution may be clumsy I get the emotion and sentiment trying to be conveyed. But there are somethings wrong with the movie. Mainly the new look for Kamen Rider #1. I really don't like the over-muscled look and he looks like "he's been hitting the roids bro!" Also thankfully while Ghost and Specter are in the movie they don't overshadow Takashi, since this really is his story just with elements from Ghost crammed in. So all in all better then what we've got but could have been far better.
Speaking of Hiroshi Fujioka we have Project X Zone 2. I enjoyed the first game due to the crossover madness seeing characters from various franchises and three different companies fighting against familiar and new (and sometimes sexy, hello Saya) evils trying to conquer or destroy the muliverse. Hell it even motivated me to Pick up Endless Frontier to see the intro for Hawken Browning and Kaguya as well as how Reiji, Xiaomu and KOS-MOS were so familiar with them and Phantom. I've also been watching a let's play of the original Namco X Capcom on Youtube to see how the whole fiasco got started, that shows how much I've been hooked.

Project X Zone 2 has the crossover fun of the first Project X Zone game as well as really botched localization. If you have at least some knowledge of the Japanese language and hear the clips you can tell that they went off the reservation with some of them. Now I can get that directly translating languages involves various constraints like how Japanese is very contextual and English not so much but Bandai of America has a bit of a reputation of not giving the slightest amount of a shit with their localizations these days. But those who've played this and Digimon Cyber Sleuth can attest to this claim.

Also, Sheath, oh dear. While I do like to see Vilenesses who are cute, strong, competent and not an evil, hateful, irredeemable bitch who doesn't know how to crack a joke, did we really need one who was a Weeaboo Squealer? I get the joke with her but still the boarder between Parody and reaffirming stereotypes is paper thin (see the Dave Chappele "Racist Pixies" sketch for evidence of that). I can tell she was meant to be a parody of the American fanbase who petitioned to have the first Project X Zone game brought into the international market but if it wasn't for the scene where Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine reaffirmed Reiji and Xiaomu that not all Americans are like her it would have been the developers biting the hand that feeds them. Pedantic complaints aside these games did inspire me to check out some of the games these characters come from, like Devil May Cry, God Eater, Xenoblade and Strider for example. So all in all get these games, see if there's a franchise that looks interesting and give it a try if only to expand your horizons.
And now my list of characters that I really want to see in Project X Zone 3. Now some of these may sound silly but then again this whole series as basically an interactive fan fiction so might as well get into the spirit. If you have suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Heroes:

Viewtiful Joe and Sylvia
Alastor (Viewtiful Joe)
Amaterasu (Okami)
Asura and Yasha (Asuras Wrath)
Axl (Megaman X)
Atoli (.Hack)
Sonic and Tales
Knuckles
Shadow and Rouge (Sonic)
E-123 Omega
Flynn and Nanashi (SMT 4) (Sega owns Atlus which made SMT, both SMT4 games are on 3DS so it makes some sense.)
Isabeau (SMT 4)
Guile (Street Fighter)
Dan Hibiki and Blanka (Street Fighter)
Trish (Devil May Cry)
Kamen Rider Ex-Aid and Kamen Rider Brave (Well Namco-Bandai's letting Toei use Pac-Man in Ex-aids movie and Ex-Aid is based on Video Games so I hope that'll happen. Probably not but not outside the realm of possibility)
Kamen Rider Lazer ( Yes I know he's dead but this series is known for using time slips so again not impossible.)
Jotaro Kujo (Part 3) & Jolyne Kujo (Namco-Bandai published Eyes of Heaven and Cyberconnect 2 developed it so all they'll need is Araki's blessing, or some negotiations with David Productions; again a man can dream)

Villains:

Jet Black (Viewtiful Joe)
Orochi (Okami)
Deus (Asuras Wrath)
Sakaki (.Hack)
Dr Eggman
Metal Sonic
Krishna (SMT 4)
Walter/Lucifer (SMT 4)
Johnathan/Merkabah (SMT 4)
Balrog (Street Fighter)
Vega (Street Fighter)
Mundus (Devil May Cry)
Kamen Rider Genm
Kamen Rider Snipe
DIO (Jojo's Bizzarre Adventure)
Enrico Puchi (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
Nightmare (Soul Caliber)
Like I've said before I'm not a big Star Trek guy, but this was still a decent movie. The plot kept me engaged the characters' back and forth was witty and it didn't seem to be just a rehash of previous Star Trek movies.
It's Telltale's Walking Dead of course I think it's great. Hell I'm doing lets plays of every episode of the new season so don't take my word for it. Watch and then play for yourselves.
It's not as good as Seven Samurai, now that the obvious is out of the way I can talk about this movie on its own. Especially since I haven't seen the "original" Magnificent Seven so thus no point of comparison. It's a kickass movie, Denzel Washington is a badass, Vincent D'Onofrio is coo-koo nuts and I love it and I seriously want that gold gatling gun.
Again never really was into Gundam, my only exposure was that SD show that was on Toonami back in the day and Gundam Seed which is apparently the black sheep of the franchise. So you can tell with that kind of first impression why Gundam isn't exactly in my top 10. But I decided to check this out and holy crap this hooked me. The characters are charismatic the fights are close, hard hitting and downright grizzly. Though unlike Code Geass where that was an entire new universe I've had a bit of a hard time trying to follow the politics of IBO since I've never seen any previous Gundam series so I have no idea about half the terms they're talking about.

I do get most of it but I may just have to go through it again to grasp the full scope. Also the funniest episode was when a certain character dies when Tekkadan was attacked on Earth. I won't say who but it was soooo obvious that this person was going to die I was surprised he wasn't wearing a red shirt talking about how he wasn't afraid of anything anymore since he had two days left till retirement. I mean it was so obvious that when it did happen it wasn't like when Mami was killed by Charlotte it was more like that Steamroller scene from the first Austin Powers. Maybe not like that but it was more like a boring punchline to an incredibly drawn out joke.

Aside from that my favorite characters are Naze and Orga. Naze is calm, cool and a charismatic charming SOB who also acts a good mentor for Orga. Also yes the dude has a literal harem of hot, smart capable ass-kicking women at his beck and call and essentially a Space Polygamist. On the one hand one can't help but be teeth grindingly jealous of a charismatic dude with hundreds of girlfriends who love him as much as he does them. But on the other hand; well to quote Charles Britannia from Code Ment "I swear to god if I have to sit though one more episode of Bridezillas I'm going to saw my own arm off." Pros and cons to everything am I right?

Though speaking of Code Geass Orga is basically Lelouch but with a key difference. If I had to compare the two Lelouch would be more book-smart where as Orga was Street-Smart. Then again somebody must have thought the same thing considering Johnny Young Bosch voices both characters. Considering that Code Geass is one of my favorite anime I'm not surprised that one of my favorite characters is Street-Smart Lelouch. But still dispite some setting issues IOB gets my seal of approval. But seriously don't fuck with these guys.

I get the joke, it got pretty tiresome, thankfully there's a good story, likable characters and more then just the main joke for this show to fall back on. Saitama is basically what would happen if Goku were strong enough to beat Superman, he's the strongest man in the universe so what now? Why just be a hero for fun of course! Also possibly find someone or thing that could give him a challenge. There's more to Saitama then just his insane strength though. He does know what it means to be a hero, he's not a glory hound and will go so far as making himself look bad to make sure that the other heroes who fought before him get their fair share of credit for their bravery. This is also getting a second season in the near future so be sure to check it out.
So that was 2016. Now on to 2017 and hopefully bigger and better things.

Manga Review: Kazumi Magica The Innocent Malice: Volume 2 part 1: Sheer Heart Attack Requiem

Please be sure to read, comment, spread the links, re-tweet and follow me on Twitter @OnDavidsBrain! and support me on Patreon.

Once again the perspective and positioning of the characters on the cover throws me off.  At least the clown girl is covering more of Kazumi then her actual costume. Though since Clown Girl's the bad guy shouldn't she want to see Kazumi humiliated? Eh whatever moving on they both look goofy.
Volume 2 picked up where we left off last time with a certain fuzzball taking to himself. Suddenly another fuzzball introduces himself to Kazumi.

Hold on what; another incubator? This doesn't make sense didn't.... UGH AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
No no wait I was wrong it was Juubey, that little demonic pile of kitty litter. He must have been talking to another copy of him or something since the little monster only has itself for company and is most likely going crazy.
Anyway Juubey does what he always does and purifies the Girls' Soul Gems. He then gets the fresh Grief Seed from the Doodle Witch with a big gulp. However when Kaoru gives him the seeds from the fake witches he spits them right out saying that they're not Grief Seeds at all! Umika speculates that those artificial grief seeds were created with witch power and that the magical girl they encountered may be responsible for their creation. But for the time being they'll just call them Evil Nuts.

Kazumi asks why a Magical Girl would do something like this if their only goal is killing Witches. But before the exposition Chibi Harley who introduces herself as Yuuri launches her attack.
Wow even upside down I can tell you got your fashion tips from Seymour from Final Fantasy X, and that's not a good thing kiddie.
Despite her over the top costume she leaves the remaining 6 of them screaming in pain and runs off with Kazumi. She then shoots an arrow into Niko's shoulder telling them that if they want to find her then to check her love letter. The sadistic clown flies off and Niko pulls out the arrow. The message says to come to Asunaro dome at midnight. As Yuuri flies off triumphant Kazumi wakes up and asks why she's doing all this.

She responds that even idiots can learn one thing and asks what hers is. Apparently it's how to put a bitch in a leg lock and chokes her with her legs. The two get into a little fight which causes Yuuri to have a flashback between her and another girl in a much friendlier situation; so she stuffs Kazumi in a bag and keeps flying while holding back tears.

Back at HQ the girls are trying to figure out what Yuuri's up to but have no clue much less how she knows them enough to hold a grudge and act on it to such a degree. Umika even wonders why she's going through all the theatrics instead of just telling them to come and fight her. Though on that note Niko points out that her theatrics are using up quite a bit of magic and we all know what happens when a magical girls magic runs dry. At midnight the show starts with Yuuri on the jumbotron and Kazumi bolted to a chair in the middle of the stadium. The six try to dash for her but BAM force field!

Yuuri shows up and tells them her plan, take the evil nuts she has, insert them into Kazumi, turn her into a witch and have her kill her friends, explaining that the detective and sales girl were her guinea pigs, an appetizer if you will for the main course from hell! Seeing her friends flesh being burnt trying to pound on the barrier Kazumi screams at Yuuri that since they're magical girls they're all on the same side, right?!
Oh no no no dear, by the end of tonight she'll be wearing your skin.
Yuuri screams that Kazumi doesn't know the first thing about the Pleiades Saints and what they do. Satomi through her sobs asks what her major malfunction is. Yuuri calmly tells them that she gave them plenty of hints with her name, the letter and location, but they didn't figure it out yet.

Quite frankly with an outfit like that it'd be pretty impossible to forget someone wearing something that ridiculous. Oh wait you were talking to them. Girls do you know what in Satan's glorious name she's talking about? Oh so you do know her....crap.
The chapter ends with Yuuri stabbing Kazumi with the Evil nuts and the rest of the Pleiades screaming in horror.

Chapter 5 opens with Yuuri finishing inserting the Evil Nut into Kazumi.
Which results in her going Super Saiyan apparently?!
Nope according to Yuuri the nut is working and is slowly turning Kazumi into a witch. Kazumi tries to fight Yuuri; but she's flipped the switch into cackling insanity mode and just beats her down and tortures her some more. Satomi is screaming at Yuuri to stop this since Kazumi had nothing to do with it. With that Yuuri finally spills the beans as to why she hates them all so much.
"They never told you did they, they never told you of what happened those many months ago with a girl named Yuuri Asuka, of the Asunaro Dome, and how in their lust for blood found the one person dear to me and took her without a second thought?" But clearly you got better so I'm still kinda not seeing the problem, aside from you being nuttier then squirrel poop.
Apparently the Pleiades are a group of magical girl hunters and that she was one of their victims. So in order to get revenge she'll find the one they treasure and kill them right in front of them, so thus Kazumi is a dead woman.

However as Yuuri prepares a spell for the killing stroke her Soul Gem starts to crack. Saki manages to break through the barrier and tells Juubey to purify her Soul Gem but it's too late and she becomes a witch.
"LOOK OVER HERE!!!"
As the heart witch attacks her last thoughts go back to a girl named Airi who had only 3 months left to live due to a fatal illness. She tells Yuuri to just leave her but she offers to save her only if she truly wants to live if not then she'll respect her wishes. Airi however begs to save her so the two can eat more delicious things together. So Yuuri gives her a spoon necklace as a good luck charm and leaves telling Airi that where's she's going is a secret.

Sure enough sometime later the doctors are telling her that her condition is completely cured as if her illness never existed. She hugs Yuuri and thanks her for saving her life. Later in the two are planning to visit Tachibana's bistro and try a dish called the bucket parfait. Airi says that once Yuuri wins a cooking competition she's competing in it'll be her treat. However on the day of the final match Yuuri is nowhere to be seen, Airi goes to investigate but ends up in the lair of a Hypodermic Needle Witch. However the Pleiades Saints show up and kill the witch. Airi thanks them for saving her as they leave, however when they've left she finds Yuuri's spoon necklace and asks why it would be where the monster is. Which is when Juubey shows up with the answer, that Yuuri was the Witch.

Juubey elaborates that Yuuris wish was to cure Airis illness which allowed her to cure other terminally ill patents just like her. Airi asked if the saints knew that and Juubey said that they were there when she became a witch. Airi clearly doesn't take it well and wants revenge. Juubey offers her the deal to become a magical girl for a wish, so she wishes to become Yuuri so she can get revenge. The chapter ends with her testing her new power and asking for the names of Yuuris killers, Juubey gives the name of Pleiades Saints and so "Yuuri" swears to get the real Yuuri's revenge.

Chapter 6 starts with Kazumi trying to get through to Airi but gets a thorn whip through the chest for her trouble. The witch then crushes Kazumi's head. But to everyone's horror Kazumi actually managed to bite the witch's arm off, break lose from her restraints and is about to go into a blood frenzy before the sound of her earring bell snaps her out of her bloodlust. She then tells the others how Airi only wanted Yuuri back, so she's going to try to save Airi. A facsimile of Airi then emerges from the witch, but all it can say is the last spell she tried to cast which blasts Kazumi away.

Saki manages to get herself and the others free and prepare to finish the witch off despite Kazumi telling them that Airi isn't a bad girl and that all she wanted was to bring back Yuuri. Mirai says that that's exactly why they have to kill her, Juubey elaborates that becoming a witch is a one way street and that all they can do for her is to stop her before she can kill anyone. Kazumi begs for them to stop but sees everyone else crying while they restrain the Witch. Seeing her friends going through such pain knowing what they have to do and knowing who this witch was, Kazumi delivers the finishing blow so her friends won't be the only ones to bear the pain and sin of killing Airi. I'd cover the end of this chapter but I honestly feel that you should read it for yourselves, all I'll say is this.
Well the next few chapters should probably get our heroes back on track, till next time.

Movie Review Captain America Civil War: No side is right or wrong and that's why we all win.

I'm still waiting people, I'm still waiting for that one bad MCU movie. I thought that it would be Guardians of the Galaxy with them utilizing relatively unknown characters but it turned out to be one of my favorites so far and one of the best both financially and critically, next I thought it was going to be Antman especially if they went with Hank Pym who as most know is one of the most unlikeable characters in Marvels staple.
In case you forgot here's why, yeah I don't care what anyone says; you smack your wife, you automatically descend to Scumball on my chart.
So let me see that would place Hank right between the Devil and George Sewel, he would have been lower but I'm assuming that in the comics he regrets that to this day and is at least trying to do the right thing, then again I don't read much comics these days so I could be wrong.
But they made the smart choice of moving Hank to mentor and having Scott Lang as Antman, thus giving a protagonist that the audiences can actually root for. (Also personally I love the designs of Antman and Yellow Jacket the only thing that's missing for Scott is a motorcycle and red scarf.) I'm not saying that I want the MCU to fail but it has to happen somewhere people. Now I haven't seen Thor the Dark World or The Incredible Hulk so it may have already happened and it has been a while since I've seen all of them so I could be wrong but yeah it doesn't look like the good times are over yet.

Now I honestly thought that this would be the one to end the gravy train for Marvel and Disney considering what this movie is adapting from. But to my surprise Captain America Civil War is how you do a Super-hero vs Super-hero movie. You set up logical and reasonable circumstances as to why they're fighting instead of just ringing a bell.
This can just suck down a jug of Granny Luthor's Peach Tea.
Now for those who don't know this movie is based off the Event Comic Civil War. If you've played Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 you're on the right track, the plot is that after an incident in Stanford Connecticut that left 600 people dead 60 of whom were children the government passed a bill called the Superhuman Registration Act that would demand super powered American citizens to register their secret identities to the US Government or be deemed rouge. Iron Man lead the Pro Side while Captain America lead the Anti and in the end the Pro Side won, Cap was arrested and it directly lead to One More Day, Norman Osborne becoming director of S.H.I.E.L.D and various other horrible things which lasted for 3 years in real time. So yeah not exactly the best of stories out there. However what the movie took from the comic was only what was needed and it works wonderfully.

Instead of the incident happening on US soil it happened in Lagos Nigeria meaning that this isn't just America's issue it's the worlds problem. The issue in the movie isn't of heroes keeping their identities secret but of accountability for the casualties of the large conflicts occurring in the MCU which in real time was only occurring for 8 years as far as the general public knew. And unlike the normal Marvel universe which has been around since the 60's the MCU was created in 2008 when Tony first became Iron Man which is an incredibly short amount of time for Superheroes to just show up, so laws and regulations were an inevitability.

However this is where I start to have problems, the UN and Tony want the heroes to be accountable for those who died during the previous movies. Specifically Loki's attack on New York, the crashing of the Helicarriers and Ultrons rampage and some of the public outright despise the heroes for their loved ones dying during these events. Um, bullcrap? Now I'm not being unsympathetic to those who lost their loved ones but the way the movie is phrasing it these people are angry that their loved ones died as opposed to the potential millions that could have died if the heroes hadn't intervened. I'm sorry but if I had that choice I would much rather live with the guilt of 10 people dying if that meant that I would prevent 10,000 people from dying if had done nothing. Now I believe that there was a certain clip to play in this situation, now where was it AH HA here it is.
Also there's the little factoid that the Sokovia accords have a part in it that dictates that the Avengers who sign are to be regulated by the UN. Um need I remind everyone that it was established in Winter Solder Hydra members have already infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D and other positions in the US and potentially worldwide governments? Unless all the members were exposed at the end of Winter Solder (which I highly doubt because as their name implies cut off one head two more grow in its place) that means that the Avengers could be just a tool for either Hydra or agenda driven, paper pushing, corporate America pleasing bureaucrats, in other words not good. From our heroes perspective Tony does feel guilty (as he should) for the deaths that were caused by Ultron and does believe that even the Avengers can be flawed and that oversight wouldn't be such a bad idea, though from Steve's perspective the ones giving the oversight might not have the peoples best interests in mind and that while some people may die it's better then to stop trying and let more die. Both are legitimately logical reasons for the conflict, accountability and oversight v.s free will and independence.

Also there's some bs about some guy wanting revenge against the Avengers for his family dying in Age of Ultron but that's not important. Now to talk about some of the heroes that were introduced in this movie Black Panther and MCU Spider-Man.
First off, love Black Panther's costume in the movie, it's sleek powerful and downright menacing, a perfect outfit for the warrior king of Wakanda.
Black Panther was introduced when T'Challas father, the King of Wakanda was killed in The Winter Solders' attack on the signing of the Sokova Accords and dons the ceremonial armor of the Black Panther to get revenge for his father. I'm glad that they gave T'Challas introduction and motivation in this movie so they can expand more in his upcoming solo movie, though it begs the question of what the movie will be about now that the origin's out of the way but that's what hindsight's all about. Now on to Spiderman.
I have to admit this is the best looking live action Spiderman I've seen. Though I've only seen the original San Raimi trilogy but still. I especially love the eyes on the mask that can actually move allowing him much more expression as I always loved with with Spiderman's costume.
How he's introduced is a great spin on the original Civil War comic itself. Tony manages to track down Peter Parker and offers to make him a new costume and provide funding for him to go to a technical college and essentially becoming a mentor and father figure for Peter. Peter doesn't fight Cap for political reasons but because Tony is willing to do this much for him and Peter is the type of guy to repay his debts. It also helps that Tony doesn't threaten to toss Aunt May into the Negative Zone prison (which doesn't exist in this movie thankfully) to keep him in line. Like with BP now that Peter's origins are quick and done with I'm curious to see how Spiderman Homecoming turns out, as long as Pyramid Head doesn't show up claiming to be a new character I think we're good.

The movie also has a far better ending then the comic but I definitely won't be spoiling that here. Long story short pick up the movie, avoid the comic and get ready for more of the MCU, till we find the piece of poo in this delicious pile of chocolate.

Tokusatsu Review Kamen Rider Chaser: Part 2: Don't question the crazy Rhino!

Please be sure to read, comment, spread the links, re-tweet and follow me on Twitter @OnDavidsBrain! and support me on Patreon.

Where we last left off Chase became a real boy and the funniest spit take in history happened. No seriously whoever directed that scene made Buster Keaton and Groucho Marx shed tears of pride, bravo to that guy. However Krim is understandably cautious about Chase's upgrade and races off to confront him before Chase discovers humor. Trust me an AI suddenly discovering humor can lead to ungodly amounts of annoyance.

Chase with his brand new attitude visits Hinako and Milksop in the hospital with gifts for the two and offers to play basketball with Milksop. Chase used kindness on Milksop.

Happy 20th Pokemon!!!
The weirdness continues with Chase going on, and I kid you not, a shopping montage with Milksop. The two then start playing basketball culminating with Milksop finally opening up to Chase and starting to have fun. Afterwords Krim finally shows up riding the Trailer Cannon and quickly deduced that someone hardwired something to Chase that's responsible for his new attitude. He then gets a call from Kiriko who has good news and bad news, good news is they found the guy 051 copied, bad news he's dead and his corpse is directly on the boarder of another city and the detective from the other city claims that the man is a suspect in a case he's involved with. Shinnosuke and Go ask who he is but those who've seen W know exactly who he is.
Yep it's Terui Ryuu AKA Kamen Rider Accel.
Now I gave a brief description of W back in my prologue review of; THAT MOVIE; but I didn't talk about Ryuu, nor will I since I want you to see it for yourselves. But yeah Ryuu's involved in this case since the suspect got his hands on a Gaia Memory so it makes sense that he's here. So Shinnosuke and Go are stuck trying to negotiate for the suspects corpse while Ryuu wants to take it because he thinks the guy died from overexposure to the one he had, the Beast Memory. But they're at a stalemate since the two are scared to death of the guy; coupled with Ryuu being as flexible as a statue negotiations are stuck leaving Krim to deal with Chase.

Speaking of; Krim managed to find the feather circuit on Chase's body but Chase is then attacked by 051. Chase orders Hinako and Hiroshi (yeah he's developed enough so I can't call him Milksop anymore) to run and tries to transform into his rider form but he can't since according to Krim the feather circuit is interfering with his base program. Krim offers to let Chase use him to become Proto-Drive but Angel shows up and says that won't work either since now that he's a complete Roidmude in her terms there's no need to become a Rider, but she does give him an alternative; a Rhino Viral Core which will allow Chase to become a Super Roidmude.

Now this is another personal nitpick of mine but I'll probably never get the chance to talk about it so here it goes, why was there never a Scorpion Viral Core/Scorpion Roidmude? I mean Bat and Spider I get since those were the first two monsters the first Kamen Rider fought, but why not the Scorpion since it was the 3rd one? Apparently the Cobra was because he was the first monster that was revived and remodeled but I still don't buy it. This could have been the perfect opportunity to have the Scorpion Viral core but why a Rhino? That choice just seems like it just came out of nowhere; but whatever just a small annoyance that I wanted to get off my chest.

Moving on Chase becomes Mashin Chaser again and despite Krims warnings he uses the Rhino Viral Core and becomes Super Mashin Chaser.

Yeah I don't care how stupid Chase was for trusting Angel; this form looks Badass! I love how the Rhino shoulder pads  look like flames and the wing esq horn on Chases head really bring the hellish biker angel motif of his logo, pretty damn awesome for a movie exclusive form.
Now that Chase has gone Super Saiyan he tells Hiroshi to take his sister and get out of there; he then proceeds to wreck 051s shit and finally puts him down for good. Angel asks how the new upgrade feels when Heart shows up to confront her. So Chase, Heart and Krim are all where Angel wants them so she calls in her crew; along with Brain. He's not really on her side of course but he does tell Heart that he's at least open to the possibility of what she's saying being true. But Heart points out that they achieved their Super Evolution on their own.

But Brain and Chase counter his argument by saying that not all of the Roidmudes are like them and that the feather circuit really does work. Angel proclaims that like her namesake she'll be the salvation for the remaining 31 Roidmudes. But Heart knows who his real angel is and refuses to put up with her crap. Even Krim agrees with Heart saying that all Angel is offering is just throwing away their ability to think for themselves. With the jig up she absorbs the cores of her followers and becomes even stronger forcing Brain and Heart to go their own Super forms, but she just smacks them around like a drum.

Chase transforms to back the two up but even he gets tossed aside, literally. Just as Angel is about to kill Heart and Brain Chase gets caught in the blast with them. However Angel notices that the three corpses are Brain's virus clones and tries to find them. Meanwhile Rinna manages to wake Krim up after he lost consciousness who tells her that they need to get to Shinnosuke asap!

Will the Roidmude Trio defeat Angel? Will the Detectives finally decide who gets Moe Urkels corpse? Will Chase finally rip out that cheep pigeon feather? Will Medic finally get her man? Tune in next time for the conclusion of Chase's solo movie!
