Manga Review: Madoka Magica Homura's Revenge Volume 1 Part 2: Two ships passing in the night.

 Yes, it's been a while, again but I'm back with more of my Madoka Spinoff Manga reviews. In case you've forgotten what happened last time here's the link to Part 1, with that we're back on track.

 In case last time wasn't clear we've switched gears from self aware goofy near parody story to totally serious story so from here on out look for more head slapping and leaps in logic thus more snark. We start the head slapping right away as chapter 4 starts with Sayaka making the contract with Kyubey so she can get revenge for Mami. Ah, the most worthless of causes and because she got fridged too, double points. Madoka goes through the motions and starts to realize the hell that Homura's subjected herself too, getting used to the fact that she can't save her friends. Sucks doesn't it?

 Up on the roof Sayaka blames Homura for Mami's death. Even though Madoka tries to dissuade her Kyubey points out the fact that when Homura showed up she distracted Mami enough for the witch to  chomp her head off like a squishy yellow Gummi Bear. When Madoka tries to tell Sayaka that Homura really was trying to save Mami she remembers that Homura told her not to mention that she's from the future, that nobody would be willing to listen about their futures which causes her to clam up muddying her argument. Getting flashbacks to Futures End here, not wise! Though at least this only lasts two volumes and not 50 or so issues of drawn out, contrived stupidity.

 While I can't disagree with Kyubey's statement (ignoring that he was the one who set her free in the first place to set up the circumstances to discredit her, Sayaka not knowing that detail and Kyubey's not telling her anytime soon) I can however argue with Homura's warning. Though in this case all Sayaka knows is what she saw and what she saw was a magical girl who had an antagonistic relationship with a new friend of hers set up an opportunity that took her out. I can't really blame her and Madoka and Homura know Sayaka will never listen to their argument, hell even Madoka was somewhat skeptical of Homura's claims during the last timeline. But to just say nothing just makes you look like you have no idea what you're talking about and only makes Sayaka less inclined to listen to either of you. The two hear the class bell and Sayaka decides that there's nothing more to talk about and walks off. 

 Later on Homura visits Mami's apartment and reminisces on when Madoka and Mami saved her from a witch and how whenever she tries to save anyone besides Madoka it never turns out well. Kyubey shows up and speculates about Homura's relationship with Mami, what she intends to do about Madoka and if she intends to drag her along with her repeating timelines and if she's strong enough to handle that. Yep, he pressed the Madoka button but before Homura can teach him why he shouldn't'a done that he blinds her with logic and struts off.

"Yeah you didn't want to lose her, you just wanted her to become another witch you miserable sociopathic rat!"

 Madoka runs into Homura at the bottom floor and the two walk back. Homura blames herself for Mami's death in this timeline but Madoka tries to tell her that they can just keep trying again until they get it right. 

 When Madoka brings up Sayaka and Kyoko; Homura remembers that today is the day she's supposed to make her contract when Hitomi gets possessed by the Box Witch. Homura heads to Hitomi while Madoka rushes off to persuade Sayaka not to make the contract. Homura manages to get to Hitomi and the other victims before they finish their Jonestown cocktail and then proceeds to deal with the Box Witch. She has it on the ropes but the Witch drags up her memories of when she first had to kill Madoka. But before she can become worm food Sayaka kills the witch in one attack.

"Well Duh and or Hello! But, you still have to admit Sayaka does have a far better execution of the concept of a Gunblade than either Squall or Lightning."

 Sayaka is about to attack Homura but Madoka protects her. Sayaka falls back for now but swears to Homura that she'll never accept her as a Magical Girl worthy of protecting Mitakihara and walks off. The chapter ends with Kyubey talking with Kyoko who's more then willing to take a crack at killing Homura since she killed Mami before she could. Chapter 5 opens on Sayaka and Madoka on the grassy hill where Sayaka gives her reasons for making the wish. When Madoka tries to tell Sayaka that Homura isn't just in it for the Grief Seeds Sayaka asks how she can trust a transfer student that they know nothing about. 

 So Sayaka heads off to see Kyosuke when Kyubey tells her that there's someone he wants to introduce to her. At the mall Madoka and Homura talk about how they both failed to save Sayaka and Mami, Madoka didn't reach Sayaka in time and Homura rightfully points out that her timing was absolutely horrible when she barged into the Witch's sanctum. Gee it's not as if you could have frozen time as soon as you got in to make sure that everything was secure OH WAIT!!! Homura suggests that Madoka should keep her distance from her lest her relationship with Sayaka deteriorate. But Madoka shoots that down saying how for all the good she's trying to do nobody sees that. 

Sometimes, just a little recognition is all you need.

 Madoka meets back up with Sayaka and the two go on her first solo witch hunt. Along the way Kyubey tells Madoka that he's made preparations to make sure that Sayaka doesn't end up like Mami. The two find the rogue familiar but this time Sayaka kills it without interference from Kyoko, that's because she's too busy pointing her spear at Homura's throat.

"Look, I know that she's got plenty of milk to go with that tea if you know what I mean. But let me tell ya from experience, ya ain't her type. And this creeper shit? Losing some serious points in attractiveness."

 She then begins her assault on Homura and the volume ends with Madoka and Sayaka investigating the noise and see the two fight with a surprising figure entering the fight making it a 2-1 brawl and no it's not John Cena.

Cue Roundabout

 So that was Volume 1 of Homura's Revenge. As I said before after the tonal shift in chapter 3 we have to look at this story with a whole new set of glasses. And with the serious story glasses on we have to sadly point out that Homura does come off as more then a bit of an idiot with her not anticipating Kyubey taking advantage of his new future knowledge to advance his own agenda, which she knows for a fact he would do because he's him! But I'll save the rest of my rants for now. Now unless something else comes along that requires my attention I'll be back next week when I start covering Volume 2.

Manga Review: Oriko Magica Volume 2 Part 1: Too bad its Sunday those buildings would have been full tomorrow. (Spoilers)

 So yep as I said I'm actually on schedule with these reviews of the Madoka Spin off Mangas. And just in time as the recent report of the anime and Manga Adaptations of the Japanese only mobile game Magica Record is coming next year. Whether they'll be actually good or not has yet to be seen but the story should at least be passable. Back to the business at hand here's the link to last week's review of Volume 1 of Oriko Magica.  Now let's start the wrap up of our two volume story. Our last volume opens with Kirika remembering how she distanced herself from her classmates since all she saw was vapid boring people having vapid boring conversations and thus not worth her time. She pushes those thoughts aside to concentrate on killing Mami who realizes that her attacks are far too slow to hit Kirika. Kirika says that she's starting to get bored; Mami calls her boredom childish which sets her off again into another attack frenzy. Mami manages to set up a smokescreen but it's only a stalling tactic, especially with her leg wound. 

 But she then notices that the Witches barrier is still up even though the witch has been dead for a while, leading to a realization about Kirikas magic, it's not super speed but she can slow down her enemies. With that knowledge in hand she then hatches a very risky plan. Kirika notices that the Labyrinth is starting to fade so she doesn't have much time left. She's determined to kill Mami so that nobody could track the killings back to Oriko. She finds Mami and begins her assault, however she springs the trap and is critically injured from Mami's surprise Musket blast.

 Even with her bleeding like like that Kirika is determined to keep fighting even if it means her death. But before Mami can shoot her point blank Oriko intervenes, picks up Kirika and retreats, but not before giving Mami the death stare and promising her that next time she'll learn the extent of her foolishness. The barrier dissipates and Mami collapses in tears from how terrible Oriko's bloodlust was. Back home Kirika's bleeding won't stop and Oriko is overwhelmed about what she should do. She thinks she should get a doctor but Kirika tells her a doctor won't do any good in the state she's in and that she has something to tell her.

You see Oriko, I  borrowed your ChapStick from you without asking Oh, and I tried out your nose hair trimmer too And by the way, your "diamond" ring is cubic zirconium. I killed your goldfish accidentally, just replaced it with another one. And when I told you at breakfast we were out of Rice Krispies what I meant was, that there was only enough left for me, sorry.

 No no, her real confession was that after the two first met when she helped her Kirika searched the entire town for her. But when she finally found her at a train stop she got cold feet since while she told herself she wasn't interested in other people the truth was that she was jealous, that there was nobody who would give her a second thought. And cue the Simpsons clip.

 Regardless of her errors in definitions that's when Kyubey showed up and Kirika made her wish, to become someone worthy of Oriko. Oriko tells her that she won't forgive her for her deception and that the only way she'll forgive her is that if she dedicates her life to protect her. While that may sound heartless her body language tells a different story, that she needs Kirika just as much as Kirika needs Oriko. So our chapter ends with Oriko holding a cracked Soul Gem and Sayaka, Madoka and Homura deciding to get something to eat after school.

 Chapter 5 opens with yet another flashback, this time of people praising Oriko and how she's a shining example of her school and her father. Who then killed himself to avoid questioning about falsified expense reports. So a politician turns out to be a crooked, thieving, lying scumbag, in other news the sky is blue and the grass is green. Back in the present Mami telepathically questions Kyubey about what Oriko stands to gain from the killings. The morning announcements are interrupted by the duo hijacking the broadcast. 

 On the roof Kyubey figured out what Oriko's up to and will see her dead for this. Oriko gives a speech about how there is a great evil in the world and she will do everything in her power to see it eliminated; as Madoka watches she can't help but feel that Oriko was looking directly at her as she said it. When the broadcast ends Oriko springs her trap, a witches Labyrinth starts to appear and encompass the entire school. Familiars then start to appear then proceed to kill and devour everyone in sight, including Madoka's homeroom teacher.

Maybe she won't have so many guy problems, IN THE NEXT DIMENSION!!!

But she's already in another dimension! 

And does she have any guy problems now? No? Point Vegeta!

 The students of course panic and run leaving Madoka behind. Just as she's about to be killed by the familiars Homura shows up and takes them out. Mami in turn transforms and protects the students from the familiars while making her way to the heart of the labyrinth. After some platforming she gets caught but is rescued by Kyoko and Little Green. Kyoko says that the only reason they're there was because Kyubey told them that Oriko would be there. 

 After a little bit of banter the trio make their way to Oriko and Kirika. Homura continues to protect Madoka but she points out an understandable problem with Homura's antics. If she's so damn powerful why is she only focused on her when she could be saving other students as well, including Sayaka and Hitomi. But Homura just tells her that she's her only priority and that the others are inconsequential to her goals.

I don't know what you're talking about Madoka. Look I can see their parachutes they're ok!

 Homura tells her that she's not as powerful as she thinks and that if she can save only one person she'd make it Madoka, no questions asked. She creates a barrier for Madoka and tells her not to leave it until she gets back and heads off with Madoka telling her to make sure they go home together. Homura finally makes it to the center of the Labyrinth and sure enough Oriko and Kirika are right there waiting for her. Homura wastes no time and tries to blow the two up with her bombs and time magic, but surprisingly they managed to dodge the attack. Oriko explains that she saw Homura in her vision, of the end of the world. 

 She knows what it is and she knows how to stop it, to save the world Madoka has to die. Homura is of course not about to let that happen and keeps attacking despite Kirika managing to counter her attacks and gunfire. Mami, Kyoko and Yuma arrive to back Homura up but all Oriko can do is shed tears since they refuse to listen to her. Kirika tells her that she's out of time since she was already close enough to set up the Labyrinth. Homura knows what she's talking about and the chapter ends with Kirika releasing the spell she placed on her Soul Gem, fully succumbing to despair and becoming a witch. 

Actually not that far off but much less perverted.

Tokusatsu Review: Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Another Ending 2: Paradox with Poppy (Spoilers)

 Welcome back to Ending 2 of the Ex-Aid Gaiden movies. For those who missed on the final exploits of Brave and Snipe here's the link for the review. Now that that's taken care off we can move on to the trials of the two Bugster Kamen Riders, Paradox and Poppy. I have to admit I'm definitely looking forward to this one since unlike Brave and Snipe who've been Kamen Riders since the start of the show we're getting screen time with one who was a villain for the majority of the show as well as one of the rare female Riders who haven't been killed off. (Ok she technically died by the end of the show but I knew she would resurrect before the last episode ended since she's a perfected Bugster which could only die for good by the power of Chronos, BTW I called it ever since she debuted as a Rider!)

 After the cold opening we open on Parado just chilling out on the helipad bored out of his mind since  he can't think of any way to help Emu since there's no need to transform. Poppy comes by to remind him that this is one of those problems that's good to have and encourages him to find a way to help CR in his own way. That's when Dr Feelgood (who I remind you all is EVIL) comes by with a job she needs Parado's help with. After Poppy leaves Feelgood pulls out a Bugvisor and steals not only Parado but Builds catchphrase! Later on Emu and Poppy meet with Feelgood and the new CEO of Genm Corp Tsukuru Koboshi (the guy who created Juju Burger and its good Bugster; Burgermon) to see the results of their collaboration.

 That being "Let's Create a Bugster" a Bugster cultivation game that's apparently capable of restoring humans from raised Bugsters. Emu's more then happy to be the first test player and starts it up, his Bugster that he has to raise, is Parado.

 No, no Brick he just has a different hairstyle, dresses in all black and doesn't seem to have all of his gaming skills but that doesn't mean he isn't Parado I mean come on! Koboshi points out that the collar Parado's now wearing isn't because he's going through his experimental phase but to gauge how close he is to becoming human. Poppy in the meantime will be raised by Feelgood while Emu focuses on Parano.

Sure thing Parado, now put on the gimp suit, bring me the meatballs, get on all fours and call me Daddy!

 While Emu spends some time with his new boy toy Feelgood and Poppy get started. After Poppy indulges in some fans fetishes in-between her Wonder Woman homages Feelgood gets her on track by having her put on a wedding dress. This particular dress causes Poppy to flashback to when her host; Dan Sakurako was trying this same dress with her soon to be husband Dan Masamune. Once she regained those memories Feelgood sucks her into the Bugvisor. Back with the boys Emu notes Parano's lack of gaming skill but he just writes it off as being out of practice. Afterwords Parano drops the act after shooting him in the shoulder with the Bugvisor 2's gun.

 Emu passes out from the pain and is rushed to intensive treatment. Afterwords he tells Kujo what happened who goes off to confront Koboshi who doesn't know what happened. He does tell him however that he was collaborating with Feelgood on the project. He goes to confront her who feigns innocence and walks off after he brings up her father again from the first movie; that he was the one who inspired her to become a Gene Therapist. So where's the real Parado and where did Parano come from? Those are answered in Feelgood's hideout at the remains of the Next Genome Research institute.

 She abducted Parado to swap him out with Parano, binding him in cables that contain Level 0 Data so he can't muster any strength. She reveals that she's working with Kuroto to "raise Parado again from scratch". Back at the hospital Kujo shares with Emu the result of his research into Feelgood. Apparently when she was young her parents divorced and she went with her mother leaving behind her father, Zaizen Michihiko aka Dr Pacman! Since he was the one who originally extracted Parado from Emu Feelgood was able to extract Parano from the revived Dan Masamune. Since both Masamune and Emu were patient Zero of the Bugster virus she was able to extract Parano from Masamune's original strain.

 So wait does this mean that the purest form of Bugster is Parado? I mean it has to be since Parado is extracted from the original strain and both Emu and Masamune have that strain.

What I'm getting from this is that Parado is the Kid Buu of Bugsters. Albeit without the mindless homicidal rage, destructive nature and mindless insanity. Though they both have ridiculous outfits and childlike personalities.

 After hearing that Parano almost killed Emu Parado tries to break free but is smacked around by Feelgood.

Doc stop it right now, you never told him the Safe-word!

 She leaves the two to fight in order to finish Parano's cultivation into the ultimate Genius Gamer. So Parano pulls out a Gamer Driver and a Black Duel Gear (as seen on Kuroto's desk in Episode 41) and transforms into Kamen Rider Another Paradox. Speaking of the God Dan Kuroto we finally catch up with the opening of the movie where we find him chilling in his backyard like a boss.

So while his former allies are getting the shit beat out of them as part of his grand plan he's just sitting there in a bright pink shirt having his massive ego stroked by Dr Feelgood while sipping on a frou-frou drink, a frou-frou drink! 

 So Parado transforms as well to fight his Doppelgänger but gets his ass handed to him with a side order of bitch cakes and eggs. Apparently this is because the human genes Parano is cultivating are from his host, so Parado is up against a Bugster who got his human genes from someone who attained the power of Chronos as well as his ruthless and evil personality, makes sense to me. Speaking of we find Masamune restrained by the level 0 cables while his maniac son rubs his talents and god complex in his face. He finally breaks down and confesses to his greatest sin, helping give life to a psychotic piece of shit like Kuroto. Parado manages to escape after a heart to heart with Emu, frees Poppy and confronts Dr Feelgood by not only calling her out on her hypocrisy but also the real reason why she's helping Kuroto, all she really wants is to restore her father.

 This causes her to snap and summon both Parano and a second Crimson Dynamo she created from her fathers data to get her two test subjects under control. The Bugster riders transform and fight, culminating with with Poppy destroying Crimson Dynamo and both Paradox and Poppy defeating Another Paradox, all while giving more cheesy speeches about the worth of a heart then a Kingdom Hearts game. But this particular game isn't over just yet.

"Doc, I don't feel so good"

 No it's not the purple monster with the blinged out Power Glove, it's the purple monster with the Bugvisor 2; the God Dan Kuroto who sucked Parano back into the Bugvisor and, for lack of a better descriptor, eats all of his data. With this, Kuroto has no further need for Dr Feelgood and kicks her to the curve, I mean, why would he need her when he's going to surpass God and bless the world with his Perfect Game? Poppy asks "what the hell I thought you were trying atone for all of the insane crap you pulled?" But really, did you really think that Poppy? This is the same guy who infected countless innocent people with a deadly monster creating virus, attempted to kill other people to advance his goals, revived four dead Riders (somehow) to revive himself using their despair, set up his own father as a patsy for his crimes and even indirectly killed Zaizen by having him extract Parado from Emu (who he infected out of spite) to even cause all of this and you honestly thought he wanted to atone?

 No no no he played all of you at CR like a damn fiddle just so he can get revenge on Masamune for stealing Kamen Rider Chronicle for himself. Like father like son he'll manipulate and exploit anyone and thing he can to fulfill his insane ambitions. He teleports away leaving Feelgood feeling not so good after being exploited by him and stumbles off in a delusional stupor at the notion of Poppy and Parado actually having hearts. We end this Gaiden movie with Kuroto at a waterfall and OH SWEET JESUS WHY?!

 Oh dear baby Buddha what were Toei and Tetsuya Iwanaga thinking?! Well I guess they had so much of Poppy in fetish outfits I guess they decided to include that scene to give the ladies and guys who swing that way something to go crazy over. To clarify, I'm not going to cover that scene, or describe it. But I will say this, it's on par with and perhaps even worse then that one scene from The Room. Anyone who's seen that movie or the Disaster Artist you all know that scene; just, why, WHY?! Ok, ignoring, THAT scene this movie was decent.

 It gave some more action with Poppy as a Kamen Rider and we all definitely need more of that. Dr Feelgood while having understandable motivations was despicable in her methods, willing to sacrifice Emu, Parado and Poppy just to see her father restored and restore Kuroto to being a full human again. Now we've all seen Infinity War so I don't have to tell you all that when you have to sacrifice people to save people you're doing something wrong! Parano sadly wasn't really all that interesting, but then again the guy was only given life only a few days ago in story so the whole point was that he had little time to develop. All in all aside from that scene which shall not be mentioned this movie was passable.

 So we've seen Brave and Snipe take their bows. We just had Paradox and Poppy discover their humanity. All that's left is to settle an old score as a mad God descends upon the world and the only one who can save us from his cruel game is a habitual liar who loves to take people for a ride. Wrapping up the Ex-Aid Gaiden trilogy is Ending 3: Genm vs Lazer. Now if you'll excuse me I need to take 25 showers and get myself brainwashed to get that scene out of my head.

Movie Review: Back To the Future Part 1: Stand Idol Season 2.

 Ah Back to the Future, what other descriptor for this movie can there be other then timeless? Describing the importance and cultural significance of this trilogy would just be insulting and undermining it so I'm not even going to bother. All I'll say is that if you haven't seen these three movies I don't even want to know you. You should go and watch it is what I'm getting at here, hell there should be a 30th anniversary collection coming soon so yeah best chance to get it. But if you're too lazy or cheap well, here's some upstart on the internet making jokes at one of the best received movies ever made.

 We open on the many clocks in the garage laboratory of Doctor "Doc" Emmet Brown where his confidant Marty McFly comes in to check on Doc and his dog Einstein and as Doc's Rube Goldberg machine points out he's been gone for at least a week, most likely involving that case of stolen Plutonium he has squirreled away under his bed but that's just me. After Marty nearly shatters his eardrums using Doc's gigantic amplifier he gets a call from Doc telling him to meet him at the Twin Pines mall that night around 1:00. All the clocks then go off as Doc is excited that his experiment worked, he set all the clocks to go off precisely 25 minutes late, so it isn't 8:00 it's 8:25 and that means Marty's late for school. Which begs the question, did Marty know what time it was when he left his home, I mean all he had to do was look at the freaking clock and he would have at least had an idea that the clocks at Doc's lab were off, or did he spend more time at Doc's place then we're shown? Does he even have a watch or something I mean come on!

 So Marty makes it to school and despite help from his girlfriend Jennifer he still gets caught by the school's disciplinarian Mr Strickland who to add insult to injury tells Marty that he shouldn't even bother entering the Battle of the Bands contest since he's too much like his old man and that no McFly has amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley, the American educational system ladies and gentleman! At the contest he and his band, The Pinheads play and well, the judges think they're just too darn loud and get the boot. But eh those guys wouldn't know good music if Weird Al was right in front of them so let me get some of my own judges to give their two cents.

I, Dio declare that Mr McFly has the musical skill, rrrrrrrrange and rrrrrrrrrepertoire of a dying cat. I Dio have heard music, and that good sir was not music. That was the mmmm orgasmic last breath of an entire music store being crushed by a Steamroller. So if you would be so kind as to crawl into the nearest hole and stay there until you draw your last breath the world will thank you.

 Fair enough, now for our second judge.

Yo Lord Dio, that was harsh dawg like straight up brutal but hey that's how ma boss Lord Dio rolls; he don't give a fuck he'd fuck all ya'll punk ass' up! Listen Marty mah boy, yo yah got somethin there man I hear you and I see that ya'll got potential dawg. Now look at me, I didn't start in this business the way I is now. Ya'll got a long way up but shit son do I see ya'll there screaming like mah boy Rocky calling out that bitch ass red Drago. I see ya'll goin places wigger, so ya'll need some advice ya'll go gets the Ice. Peace!

Oh my god she's eating one of the stagehands.... again; somebody get the stun gun!!!

 Um, anyway Marty isn't taking the rejection well despite Jen reminding him of what Doc said that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. But Marty still has his doubts but is reminded by Jen of their little, get-together tomorrow night at the lake. You know what I mean.

  But the mood is wrecked by an old woman asking for donations trying to save the Courthouse Clock-tower which is planed to be repaired by Mayor Gold Wilson since the clock-tower was struck by lighting in 1955 and hasn't moved since. Marty gives her a quarter and gets a flyer which is a copy of the news article describing the incident. Jen's Dad shows up to pick her up so she writes the phone number of where she'll be on the back underneath three little words " I love you".

 As Marty heads home he finds the last thing he needed, the family's car wrecked and his dad George's boss Biff Tannen telling him that because he was driving the car and wrecked it George's insurance should cover it. Now if I were in George's shoes; since Biff clearly admitted he was drinking while driving the car I'd threaten to take him to court for not only the damage to my car but also slander for lying that the car had a blind-spot and sue him for not only damages but for anything else me and my legal team could squeeze out of him. But of course since George is a complete whenis he folds like a cheap suit and acquiesces to all of Biffs demands including filling out all of Biffs reports before his deadline so he can have them retyped. After Biff leaves Marty is quite surprised George is able to stand up since he clearly doesn't have a spine! George just says that Biff is his supervisor and just isn't good with confrontations, Duke if you don't mind?

 Later at dinner we get to see a better glimpse of Marty's family life, his dad is a Milquetoast, his brother Dave (no relation) is working in fast food, his sister is essentially Meg Griffin and his mother Loraine is a miserable drunken lush. Eventually the situations leads to Loraine explaining about how she ended up with what most people think when they think an adult Shinji Akari, her dad accidentally hit George with his car back in 1955 when he fell out of a tree while "bird-watching" so she took care of him and just kind of fell for him and how helpless he was, later they kissed at the Enchantment Under the sea Dance and the rest is history. Later that night Marty gets a call from Doc telling him to swing by his place, get his video-camera and meet him at the Twin Pines mall. Marty arrives and finds a Truck with Doc's company name on it and Einstein, Marty asks the dog where Doc is and the truck opens and unveils one of the greatest vehicles in Movie History, the Time Machine.

  Marty starts rolling as Doc gives the details of his experiment, first he puts Einstein in the car and notes that his and Einstein's digital clocks are in perfect synchronization, then using a remote control drives the car a good few feet away from him and Marty.  Next he starts to rev the car and have it gain speed in the rear wheels before he lets it go, and if his calculations are correct; when that baby hits 88 mph, they're gonna see some serious shit. And sure enough they do, as when the DeLorean hit 88 mph it teleports away in a flash of light at precisely 1:20 AM and 0 seconds. Long story short Einstein became the worlds first time traveler! And one minute later the DeLorean does indeed reappear completely intact though with notable layers of ice around it, though it does melt quickly apparently the time-space continuum is very cold.

 Inside they find Einstein and his clock is precisely one minute behind Doc's showing that the trip was instantaneous. Now for a rundown of how it works, first you pull the lever near the stick to turn on the Time Circuits, the red readout tells you where you're going, the green one tells you when you are and the yellow one tells you where you've been and all you have to do is input the destination time on the dial pad next to the readout. Like for example 07041776 for the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 12250000 to see the birth of Christ, or a very personal date for Doc 11051955. Why is it so personal, that was the day he invented time travel, he was standing on the edge of his toilet hanging his clock when he slipped, fell and banged his head on the edge of the sink and when he came to he had a vision in his head and drew this.

 Afterwords he reflects on how much had changed since that day and Marty asks what the Time Machine runs on, it turns out it's Plutonium. But it isn't nuclear it's electrical the Plutonium is needed for the nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts needed to fuel the Flux Capacitor. Doc then says that he got the Plutonium by tricking a group of Libyan Nationalists, he said he'd use it to build them a bomb but he just gave them a bomb shell filled with used Pinball Machine parts. Wow talk about grey morality there chief. After they pun on Radiation suits and insert more Plutonium into the fusion reactor in the back of the DeLorean Doc is ready to go and explore the space-time continuum and head 25 years into the future, maybe find out who wins the next 25 world series?

 Doc almost forgot to bring extra Plutonium but just as Doc is about to pack the Plutonium the Libyans he screwed over find him and gun him down. They nearly kill Marty but their gun jams giving Marty time to get in the DeLorean and try to get away. While the chase is going on Marty accidentally activates the Time Circuits and when he reaches 88 mph he gets sent back to November 5th 1955 since Doc didn't change the destination coordinates and Marty crashes into a barn.

 Actually Homer, you're the third. Come back next time where we see Marty's reactions to his new surroundings and the wacky shenanigans that await.

Video Game Review: Persona Retrospective: Persona (PSP) Part 7: Red Roses.

In case anyone forgot our group has to find the Expel Mirror, but where is it? Well if anyone did some exploration in the beginning of the game they'd know it was on display at the historical society. Once they reached the Historical Society the group used the Old Bronze Key that they found near the statue of Jenifer Carrol to open the door. Inside they see a painting of the creature that was stalking them in the apartment building.

While they looked at this painting they wondered, why was it so determined to find them, what did it want? Why did looking at it give them such feelings of hatred, horror and revulsion?

 Wait, oops sorry wrong Historical Society, this one is far less terrifying, no they just go inside and find the mirror straight away. The mirror shows a hologram of the girl in white who tells them not to take the mirror. But since they have no other way to beat the subway guardian they have no choice but to take it. So they make their way through the tunnel and use the mirror to defeat the guardian Yog Sothoth Jr. Be warned if you go into this fight under leveled, under equipped and with weak Personas you might have more then a few problems with this guy. Luckily there's a Save point and Trish's spring near by before the boss room, all you have to do is hit him with Nuclear, Blast and Gravity spells, 1 handed weapon attacks and you should be fine. Just keep in mind that he likes to lower your teams attack and hit rate, inflict sleep and that his other spells have an area range and may inflict status effects and you should be okay. Once the thing that should not be is no more Aki will show up again for another taunting session and warn that she has another game set up for them. Once the group hits top side the only way to get to the rest of the east side of town is through a building called the black market. This place is evil, evil, evil, evil, evil! Once people step inside this place they become trapped by a spell cast by the boss of this place; the "Harem Queen" which means that nobody can leave unless she says so. But of course she isn't the type to let her playthings go that easily and nobody can ever leave so you have to find this queen at the bottom of her lair, the Karma Palace and kick her ass. Now this isn't too bad since all the stores and shops are still open inside the black market, including a hospital, a Satomi Tadashi, the Rosa Candida shop and an entrance to the Velvet Room so if you need some new equipment, now's the time to stock up and upgrade. Now the gang needs to gets some info on their new enemy so their first stop is the Peace Dinner, there they learn that this whole building is under the iron fisted rule of the Harem Queen who has apparently taken over the building in the last month where she forces her subjects to continuously praise her art work and serve her every whim. Once they get the info from the Diner's Master the gang heads off to the palace next to the casino. Be warned, this place is a maze and there are several powerful demons in this place so if you haven't powered up, you're going to be in a world of pain. But just because you're in a maze doesn't mean you shouldn't explore everything, in several rooms there are totems for fusing Personas so definitely get them. Once the gang reaches the 8th floor art gallery Maki notices that the displayed painting belongs to Chisato, Yosuke's girlfriend. They believe that the Queen has taken Chisato prisoner since everyone says that her painting is the Queens. But when the gang reaches the Queen's room they find out that Chisato is the Queen!

Yeah it turns out that Aki decided to give Chisato a magic mirror that grants any wish she makes on it. However she forgot to mention that whenever Chisato makes a wish on the mirror she gets; well a certain something on her face.
                                  
Which coupled with her anger towards Maki and her own low self-esteem drove her to go crazy and down the route of a narcissistic megalomaniac. Maki tries to reason with Chisato but she's not having it, even going so far as to say that the only reason why she even dated Yosuke in the first place was because she knew Maki liked him. And she just keeps going on and on about how everybody liked Maki more, they all loved her art more then hers even though she was prettier then her and.

EVERYTHING WAS BETTER ON MY EARTH!

 Yeah pretty much. Mark of course calls her out; figuring out why he didn't like her art, Chisato is ugly through and through and it's reflected in her art work. Nanjo pours more salt on the wounds saying that the only reason people praise her artwork is because they're scared to death of her. Mark then adds the cherry on top by summing up her artwork.
                           
Close enough. With that statement Chisato wishes with the mirror to teleport the bungholes out of her castle. So the true evil comes into the light, they have to go through the whole palace all over again just to get back to her.

Needless to say this place can go to hell on a golden chariot shaped like a toilet. So the gang then restock their supplies, equipment and get new Personas then they make their way back to the palace to confront Supergirl-Prime. Once they made it back to Chisato they find that she has even more moles then last time and is even more crazed. She asks Naoya to decide which is better, Maki's paintings or hers. To sway his opinion she then uses the mirror to turn Nanjo, Mark and Reiji to stone, she says that she'll change them back once Naoya says her paintings are better, but of course he says that Maki's are better because he won't be intimidated by someone like her. (Besides if you did say that her's was better the next fight will be more difficult. You may have your full party but the boss will have far more HP and stats then if you said no.) Aki then shows up to make things worse by saying that if she kills Naoya and the rest of the group she'll fix her face with no strings attached. So Chisato makes another wish on the mirror to give her the strength to kill Naoya and Maki. The Harem Queen shouldn't be too much of a problem, even with only Naoya and Maki, the only problem to worry about is her Petra Eye ability, which has a chance of turning a party member to stone, so bring some Dis-Stone items before you head down to the Karma Palace, she also has Dia, which she can use to heal herself a little bit, just stick to ice and Wind attacks and you should be fine. Once the Queen is knocked off her throne Aki pours salt in her wounds saying that she wouldn't fix Chisato's face even if she did kill them and all that Kandori thought of her as a guinea pig and a useless pawn and that "Even if Chisato loses she's not worth our trouble." They were just going to let Chisato live the rest of her life with a mole ridden face with the knowledge that she killed her best friend and her friends because of her jealousy and selfishness. Wow, that's just plain old fashioned cruel. Aki then teleports out laughing her ass off all the while. Maki, despite everything Chisato said and did is still going to try and help her; because she still considers Chisato a friend. Chisato then breaks down and says that everyone will hate her now. Maki says that isn't true and Yosuke teleports in (seriously) and confesses his love for her. And with that confession the mirror shatters, everyone is returned to normal and Chisato loses all the moles covering her face. Happy Endings for everyone!

Chisato tells the group that she knows that Aki lives in a castle. So next time it's time to raid Kandori's castle!

Tokusatsu Review: Shuriken Sentai Ninninger Vs. Kamen Rider Drive Spring Special: Part Three: NOT THEM AGAIN!

For a recap on my thoughts so far, here they are. Where we last left off our Ninja destroyed several buildings, slaughtered thousands of people and are rightfully being detained by the police. We then cut to Mach getting the crap beaten out of him by Sangou, but he just leaves saying that Mach will die eventually. So.... why not just kill him now? OH YEAH there is no good reason. Yeah it's not like you work for Shocker or anything and getting rid of a Rider THAT CLEARLY STANDS NO CHANCE AGAINST YOU would benefit you and your bosses or anything down the line, but there goes me and my logic again.

                            
 Speaking of not making sense we then shift the focus of this crossover to Shinnosuke who is confused at not only everyone's attitudes starting to take a turn for the tyrannical but also the higher ups decision to making sure that the Ninningers fry like bacon in the chair, even going so far as to give them higher priority then the Roidmudes. But then again them escaping their cells didn't exactly help Shinnosuke's case.

There were Ninningers here, they're gone now.

 Hell even Krim is all for carrying a torch in this proverbial witch hunt. Granted his reasoning is a little bit more sane, he thinks that the Ninningers are dangerous since they come from another world, which could lead to some serious problems if they are not dealt with.

In other words the universe doesn't like its peas mixed with its porridge.

Shinnosuke still wants to try and help them by sending them back to their world by hunting down #089 but Krim says its no dice until the Ninningers are dealt with and the people of their world come first and the needs of the mango out way the needs of the figs or something like that. Shinnosuke walks out to get some air and think when.... oh for god's sake.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

GEE DICK LET'S FIGURE THIS OUT! Was the mansion always there, no THEN IT IS AS SUSPICIOUS AS ALL HELL YOU SCHMUCK! Seriously how did nobody notice a mansion teleporting outside of a frigging police station?! You'd think that maybe somebody would notice something this frigging big that sticks out like Godzilla's thumb. Hell even a drunk, blindfolded Ray Charles could tell you that this doesn't fit here! Ugh anyway because even Shinnosuke isn't stupid enough to miss something this suspicious (granted it's right in front of his face but still better late then never) he checks it out. Inside the Ninningers are panicking over Tsumuji fading away and they can't find where the enchantment under the sea dance is to fix him. Their Grandpa is vanishing too but he's less then helpful.

I could tell you where to find him so you can kill him faster and hopefully save us all but I think you should find him for yourselves because, well let's face it I'm dying before you all either way so I might as well take everyone else with me.

         
 So after Old Ninja moonwalks out of there (seriously) the team walks out to find #089 but of course since Old Ninja is a psychotic old coot, he gave them nothing to work with and are pretty much up the creak without a paddle. Making matters worse Shinnosuke tracks down Takaharu at the docks. Shinnosuke is of course conflicted between his duty as a police officer to bring in the Ninningers on his superiors orders and his duty as a Kamen Rider, to help those he can who desperately need it. So of course he decides to help Takaharu and his family get back home. But then Otta and other officers show up and the two decide to book it, leaving Kiriko and Krim behind. Meanwhile Cloud discovers some workers who are under the effects of Buruburu's slime, he's then attacked by the Yokai from behind. Cloud manages to transform and hold him off until Kasumi, Fuuka and Nagi provide him with back up. We then cut to our red heroes not having a clue in their heads about where to find #089. The two then get attacked by the Hitokarage.

The two make an escape thanks to Kiriko and her getaway van. She gives Shinnosuke a picture with two familiar images on it.

Oh god, not them again.

Kyuu found the picture of the silver haired man online, he apparently went by the name Dr D and was researching something at an odd research facility, and that it exploded 40 years ago and Dr D went up in flames with it screaming about how he found a way to "return the era to zero" as it were. How that website knew about any of that is beyond me and this whole situation doesn't make a whole lot of sense but let's move on. Kyuu also says that there have been reports of his Ghost wandering around the abandoned site so the trio decide that's where #089 is hiding. At the site the trio are attacked by a familiar monster; Hiruchameleon aka General Black of Gel-Shocker.

Now the one hang up I have about this is that he's wearing the wrong emblem on his belt, as I said General Black worked for Gel-Shocker, not Shocker Classic. I know that both organizations were essentially the same thing since the Great Leader was running the show for both groups but I just want some consistency here. Also I think Gel Shocker had a cooler emblem. I mean snakes make things cooler by default.

Using his camouflage powers he nearly choked Shinnosuke until Mach chased him off. Go powers down telling them about his encounter with Sangou.

I think this "Abandoned laboratory" is actually one of Toei's prop warehouses. You can see three of the cloths that were most likely used by the Greeed from OOO and that weird viewing globe thing that the Vyram used in Jetman and Dr Samejima used to get to Nejirejia in Megaranger.

Anyway Go apparently did some research on Dr D and discovered the Double Riders. Even though at this point in continuity Shinnosuke already encountered Kouta Kazuraba AKA Kamen Rider Gaim in their crossover movie. But there is a possible explanation for why they don't know about the past Riders, but I'll discus that when we get to that plot point. The most interesting part is that Go mentions that while the Double Riders fought Shocker, there was no mention of a third Rider.

Again, during the time of the Original Shocker/ Gel-Shocker. V3 didn't come around until Destron was running around.

Go then theorizes that the world is being distorted, not only due to the appearance of the Yokai and Ninningers but also that of Sangou as well as the people's subtle personality changes. It all becomes clear when Shinnosuke notices the Shocker emblem in Go's photo and he starts to put the pieces together.

Though I may have to call BS on this one, especially if this really is a former Shocker facility. I may have very little experience watching the original series, but if I do know one thing about Shōwa era Rider series; it's this. Rider finds base, Great Leader makes it go boom like he was Michael Bay. So yeah for this facility to be this intact is nothing short of a miracle.

Or the Great Leader may have been waiting on this one for some dumb reason since we see Turtle Bazooka firing at the base with everything he's got.

Again, Turtle Bazooka was a Destron Monster not a Shocker Classic monster. Hell in this crossover he isn't even wearing any emblem on his waist.

Once the base is destroyed the we see the other four Ninningers struggling with Buruburu, and are forced to pwer down when they are hit by a sneak attack by some Hitokarage and Roidmude #076. Suddenly the Trailer Cannon shows up and sends several Shift Cars out to protect the Ninningers from the Hitokarage's attack. Yep Shinnosuke, Kiriko, Takaharu and Go made it just in time. Yep apparently Krim used Tridoron to get the four out of the building before it was completely destroyed. Wow, way to keep us in suspense guys, M. Night Shyamalan would be overjoyed by this. -_- Shinnosuke even figured out who is really behind all of this nonsense. The revived Buruburu reveals himself to be Dr D aka Roidmude #089. But the Roidmudes aren't the true masterminds, and if anyone with a frontal lobe was paying attention you have most likely figured it out for your self, spoilers it was Shocker.

Yeah as if the old monsters, and the giant emblem weren't enough of a tell, but if you still needed me  tell you this then congratulations, you ate paint chips as a kid.

OH GOD HIS CROTCH IS THE REAL MASTERMIND RUN!

No no, that's just the Shocker emblem as a belt buckle, the Great Leader loves to communicate through these things. He then explains that Dr D did die 40 years ago but they had enough of his cells left over to recreate him through the Roidmude. Hold on stop, time for some major deconstruction here.

This is a screenshot of the Original Dr D from the original Kamen Rider show back in 1973. In the episode he was featured in all he was doing was researching how to defeat Kamen Rider 1. Keep this in mind as the special says that he dies two years later doing research about how to rewrite history.

 Also keep in mind that Great Leader here says that Dr D worked for Shocker, again time to call this into question as when Shocker was transitioning to Gel-Shocker part of the change involved killing every single remaining Shocker member. Stupid yes but it did happen. So yeah if Dr D did work for Shocker he should have been another body on the pile, but from the picture up there we can clearly see the Gel-Shocker emblem so we know that Dr D was around during that time, meaning Dr D was recruited after the culling of Shocker. Next, the time of his death, he supposedly died 40 years ago, but if he were still loyal to the Great Leader that would have meant he was working for Black Satan, not Shocker, and yes I know that all of the Great Leader's organizations are still technically Shocker since they were still lead by the Great Leader but still this special says Shocker so I'm calling it out! Now for the major elephant in the room, how in the hell did Roidmude #089 copy someone who has been dead for 40 years by their own admission? Now I know that there was a case in Drive about a Roidmude copying a dead person.

This is Volt, aka Roidmude #024, he was copying a person who had been dead for an indeterminate amount of time.

 Now the major difference is that the Roidmudes have been in hiding for at least 15 years, so #024 could have copied him while he was alive. Bringing this back to my point about #089, Roidmudes can only copy living subjects, so how did this one copy someone who has been dead for DECADES?! Maybe it could be explained that the Great Leader kept extensive visual and audio records of all of those who worked for him, whether willing or coerced, and he kept several DNA samples from like Shocker health exams or something. But it's never stated, all they give us is that some of Dr D's DNA was kept on ice and #089 somehow was able to completely recreate himself from that. But I'm sticking to my theory as it would be the only way this makes any sense. Also, for that matter, how in the hell did Shocker manage to get their hands on #089 in the first place? My theory is that Shocker was studying the Roidmudes (as well as every other evil group that came after them that wasn't lead by the Great Leader) and discovered the Roidmudes' copy ability, captured one and had #089 recreate Dr D from the visual records that I mentioned before. But I'm done deconstructing how this doesn't make any sense in regards to continuity I'm just going to say the Great Leader stole the Continuity gem from Deadpool and move on.

And remember kids, when a dude in a really stupid hat offers you chimichangas for some time with your special stone, kick him in his special stones and take the damn chimichangas and have yourself a merry little fiesta. There's my cameo gimme my pay.

 Yeah hows about hell to the no tumor mouth! I already have two 4th wall breaking assholes to deal with and at least they don't point guns at me when I get on their badside.

Wanna repeat that, Fatass?

 See what I mean, also because I run this show I can just shut you out. Bye bye; hope Ryan Reynolds doesn't mess you up as badly as last time. Back to this madness, #089 says that using his body as the foundation they were able to finish the original Dr D's dimensional distorter. Takaharu figures that destroying #089 will fix everything but #089 says that he's achieved a new power after absorbing the Sealing Shuriken that Izayoi gave him, becoming Shocker Buruburu.

Meet the new boss, same as the old. Also get used to seeing this guy in future crossovers involving Shocker, if you have the emblem odds are good they'll use you again and again and again.

 Now with the true enemy exposed our heroes transform, the bad guys get reinforcements from Turtle Bazooka, Hiruchameleon and some Shocker Combatants.

COBRA KAI, STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE HARD, NO MERCY!

 Thus the battle begins. It seems to be going well until Shocker Buruburu demonstrates being a embodiment of fear with his Terrible Pressure power. He might not have a Sinestro Corp ring but he does do the job of immobilizing the heroes in a field of pure terror. Drive then transforms into his Super Form, Type Formula to break out of the AT Field using his super speed and attack Shocker Buruburu. Not one to be outdone Mach transforms into Type Dead Heat to help Drive. With the distraction the Ninningers combine to form a freaking tornado to slice Shocker Buruburu to pieces, the seven then combine their finishers to send Shocker Buruburu to the scrapyard, destroy his core and collect the original Buruburu's sealing shuriken. So UFOmaru, Tsumuji and Old Ninja show up to take the Ninningers back to their world, good-byes are exchanged and we cut to Sangou who says that #089 was just a prototype for their history revision machine. Which finally could explain why everyone was acting so weird and why Shinnosuke didn't know about the previous Riders. As we see in the movie Sangou was sent back in time to kill the double Riders and thus the world would fall under Shocker's rule and every Rider that follows the originals would be a Shocker Rider. It could also explain the differences in continuity seen here. This whole time they could have been in an alternate world, not the Rider's prime world if the universe uses the Multiverse theory. This could have been a alternate universe created from the invention of the History revision device which generated the wormhole that Izayoi used to get to this world and create Buruburu as part of the plan of the Alliance of Shocker, the Roidmudes and the Gengetsu army. The Great Leader really did steal the Continuity gem and this is the effects slowly affecting the world. Whatever, this crossover, had some problems. There was very little character interaction pieces aside from the ones with Shinnosuke and Takaharu, but then again Ninninger was only five episodes into its runs o the limited characterization is a little more tolerable and understandable. To make matters worse the franchise history seemed to get kicked in the head more then a few times as I mentioned before and I honestly can't help but think that the "history manipulator" was just a convient plot device for Riku Sanjo to cover his tracks. Could you tell this and Drive were written by the same guy that wrote the screenplay for this thing?

For those who hate Drive, you now have more evidence in your case regarding the flimsy quality of the storytelling engine (not pun intended) of the show.

 But there were some concepts that I think were executed far better then the Gaim/Toqger crossover that we got last time. Like for example there was a small scene of the villains interacting. Granted it lasted less then a minute but it was there and maybe next time we can get some more with the next generation of bad guys. I also liked how much better the Gengetsu army's methodology interacted with the Roidmudes, and when the Rider Monsters grew to fight Shurikenjin at least it made some semblance of sense. The scenes trying to tie into the movie was questionable but at least it showed Shocker doing a test run on their latest take over the world scheme, and at least this time travel plot doesn't involve Den-O. And when we see the Ninningers interacting with Drive to fight the Rider Robot thing we at least know how they know each other if history has been altered. All in all, not bad but definitely one you need to switch your brain off for. I will return you to your regularly scheduled Persona retrospective next time.
